First off, a big congratulations to Slumberland Records. The label—home to The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Crystal Stilts and Brown Recluse among others—turns 20 this year. To celebrate, they’re throwing themselves parties.

In other record label news, several new bands are finding homes. After a stint opening for The Rosebuds, Chapel Hill’s The Love language has been signed to Merge Records for their sophomore album. Says lead man Stuart McLamb of the deal in a press release, “As of yesterday I’ve overdrawn my bank account by $200, my girlfriend dumped me and my car won’t start. I think this Merge deal could be a real turning point.” Meanwhile, Majordomo Records has snatched up ex-Beulah member, Miles Kurosky. Danish band Efterklang has signed to 4AD. Their next album—follow up to 2007’s Parades—will be available in early 2010.

Speaking of our Scandinavian friends, Loney Dear is set to re-release classic album, Citadel Band via Polyvinyl, November 24th. In support of his most recent release Dear John, he’s also released a video for single “I Was Only Going Out” featuring Amy Seimetz.

We like Loney Dear. Glenn Beck likes Muse—although the feeling might not be so mutual. After announcing his support of Muse on his radio show, as reported by Revivl, the controversial radio broadcaster and Fox News host was asked by the band to retract the statement…. Or was he? No. As reported by MTV, the conservative pundit was “just joking.” Humm…don’t need non-existent e-mails from British glam rockers to tell us this smells like a publicity stunt. In other musical beef-related news, there’s no love loss between Ulrich Schnauss and Guns N’ Roses. As reported by Reuters, Schnauss alleges that he band used portions of two songs, “Wherever You Are” and “A Strangely Isolated Place” on Chinese Democracy track, “Riad N’ the Bedouins. Releases? We’ve got the low down. Trans AM has announced a double LP live record and DVD, What Day Is It Tonight?, due out December 8th. The album will encompass the band’s career from 1993 through 2008.

In film news, busy man Gary Ross has a plateful. As reported by Variety, while in the mist of Spiderman 4 rewrites, Ross has been tapped to write and possibly direct Spider-Man spin-off Venom—a new franchise based on Topher Grace’s character in Spider-Man 3. It’s unclear whether Grace will reprise his role, but it seems unlikely. Ross wrote the screenplays for Big and Dave and wrote and directed Pleasantville and Seabiscuit.

Meanwhile, according to MTV, French band Daft Punk will be making an on-screen cameo in the upcoming Tron sequel, Tron Legacy, set to hit theaters, December 2010. The band is also scoring the film. (via NME)

Finally, in television—Doctor Who. We make no bones about our love of the British Sci-fi Series (see Q&As with David Tennant, Eve Myles and Steven Moffat). In addition to prepping a new season with new Doctor, Matt Smith, the show is also unveiling a new logo. Show-runner Steven Moffat describes the new logo in a BBC press release: “DW in TARDIS form! Simple and beautiful, and most important of all, a completely irresistible doodle. I apologise to school notebooks everywhere, because in 2010 that’s what they’re going to be wearing.”

Doctor Who and the new logo will make their on-screen debut in spring of 2010.
